Yeah, VR headsets still seem to have a ways to go on Linux from what I read. I’d agree for something like that, dual boot would be a better option than a VM.

The rules for how they’re supposed to work sound simple enough on paper. Unfortunately a lot of us in the US have poor reading comprehension skills.

I know there’s a Citrix Workspace app for Linux, but this particular company’s environment won’t work in it for whatever reason. I tried making it work - got all the way through authenticating my credentials and then would throw an error (I forget what) as soon as it tried loading the dashboard.

And this is just a part time gig I’m doing for supplemental income, so it’s not a huge concern for me. Not really an important enough employee for them to spend time making a custom image for, particularly when they said up front I’d need Mac or Windows to use the Citrix environment, so I knew going in I’d probably need a VM if I couldn’t get their stuff working in Linux.

I think it may have something to do with the workspace protection they require for guarding against screenshots.

This was my solution. If I need windows for anything, I’ve got a Win10 VM. And with QEMU/KVM, it gets near native hardware performance. Thankfully the only thing I need it for currently is checking my work email once a day for a part time thing I do - their particular setup for the Citrix Workspace environment I’m required to use won’t work on Linux.

I work from home using a work provided laptop. One day my partner at the time was working on setting up a Kali machine, and every time they connected to the network my work laptop would cease all network communication. Guess whatever security software/settings my work laptop had was made very nervous by a Kali machine on the same network.

The ultimate end-goal of a president’s first term is to be elected for a second term, and we Americans have very short attention spans. Stuff like this that seems like it should obviously have been done as soon as someone with the will to change it comes into power is more politically beneficial to do in an election year. I host a handful of Internet facing sites/applications from my NAS and have had no issues. Just make sure you know how to configure your firewall correctly and you’ll be fine.

Obviously my own experience is entirely anecdotal, but I think relevant to the point. I work 100% remotely, I just need a decent Internet connection. I currently live in a moderately sized city, and keeping up with the finances can be a struggle compared to the lower cost of rural living. However, I’m also a gay man, pro choice, I don’t care what two or more consenting adults do in the privacy of their home, etc. etc. etc. with all the usual liberal stuff.

The job prospects aren’t why I left the rural southeastern US, and they aren’t the reason I’ll never go back there.

These people were warned about the brain drain their bullshit would cause. I have no sympathy for them or their towns’ dwindling tax revenues.

Publishers have to use the walking on eggshells language even when it’s obvious what happened because of libel laws. You’re not guilty until convicted in a court of law. Until that point, everything is allegedly, possibly, appears to be.

One of these guys walked up and gave me a handful of birdseed, prompting a flock of pigeons to come perch on my arms. I most certainly did not hand over the money they wanted for the experience I didn’t ask for and was somewhat disgusted by.
