KDE is closer to the modern Windows UI than Cinnamon. Cinnamon looks like Windows XP which nobody has used in like a decade. It’s not a familiar UI anymore.
Why do people keep recommending Mint as a starter distro? Maybe if your computer is a toaster, but it lacks tons of modern features. Seems like a one way track to people thinking Linux sucks. Fedora KDE edition is a way better beginner distro for a halfway decent PC.
I’ll look into it thanks. I ran the apt command on Debian and was intimidated by how many dependencies were required. Might try it on a test machine first.
Microsoft Wireless All-In-One Media Keyboard that I bought almost 8 years ago lol. Thing is a trooper, but it’s definitely annoying having such a large object in my living room. I’m using GNOME so I’m not sure if KDE Connect would work for me. I wouldn’t mind a smartphone solution if it worked reliably though.
Thought about it but there’s really not too many companies that make these. All from cheap Chinese no name brands. What one do you have? I’m open to recommendations.
Remote. It was the Rii K06 Mini Bluetooth Keyboard from Amazon. Only like $27 but I just don’t like creating that much ewaste. The battery in it still worked perfectly fine. The keys just started glitching out. Tried on several different computers all did the same thing. I kept it clean wasn’t any liquid or anything sticky on it. Even when I hit a button on the circuit board with it all taken apart it did the same thing.
I bought one of those and it died in like a year. Took it apart to see if it could be fixed. The whole thing is just one big circuit board. No parts to replace. Ended up just chucking it and probably won’t buy another one.
It’s not happening when you try to initiate sleep mode, is it? I have a computer that only ever does something like this when I try to use sleep. I’ve basically just stopped using that feature because nothing I tried ever fixed it. Works completely fine otherwise.
Obtainium does look sick. This might be what I was looking for.
I’d just like to be completely free of Google’s app distribution infrastructure if possible. I’ll have to look into unobtanium. I haven’t heard of that one previously.
There’s no proprietary apps on F-Droid. It doesn’t even have Signal which is open source.
Apple has always at least kept your data semi-private from everyone except them. It’s not perfect and it’s still putting way too much trust in Apple, but it’s preferable to Google selling your data to the highest bidder at will.
I’ve long considered making this switch from iPhone to an ungoogled Android device. What always bothered me is still basically having to install proprietary apps from a Play Store adjacent source. Like the Aurora store is basically just the Play Store logged under someone else’s account. I know you can side load but that’d be a pain to maintain updates. Wish there was like a Flathub-like store on Android I could use instead.
I’ve been using Linux off and on for about 15 years now. It’s so much easier to use now compared to when I started. I understand why people might’ve avoided it in the past. But the list of excuses is getting pretty small these days.
Maybe Doctor Dre needs some talk some sense into him.
Do you think it’s better than Voyager? That’s what I’ve been using. Pretty satisfied with it.
Your life looks pretty sick to me!
And eventually they’ll just pull the no ads version altogether.
What generation iPad Air? I tried it on my phone and it only booted to Grub for some reason.
